Mike Sweeney must still be kicking himself. Whoever said baseball is a game of inches had today in mind. We should have lost. But letting that ball go foul was something the Indians of the past would have done. Then came the explosion. I have to admit the tribe can be murder in those situations. Then to win on a wild pitch. Nothing but a bases loaded walk hurts worse. But a win is a win. Cle 8-KC 7. I got an email from Robin who states he's an Indians fan, well, we'll see about that. Anyway, welcome to Blogger Robin. And, I told Patricia about Blogger today so I hope we'll have another Blogger soon.

I don't know what Omar's been eating but serve me a plateful. Vizquel cracked another home run tonight totaling his entire long ball output of last year as the Indians beat the Royals 3-1. Jim Thome hit another 2 run homer. And we got solid pitching all night. My brother Bob called me today. Seems he likes to read this site and asked if any Indian win makes me happy. He asked if I would be satisfied if we won 135 regular season games and the World Series. Would that change my outlook? No, I guess it wouldn't. I have a rather large dent in the Indians part of my conscience that won't allow it. This goes back to the late 50's and carries through every type of loss imaginable. And then there was the trades. We'd trade pitching for hitting and lose 10-9, then we'd trade hitting for piching and lose 2-1. It was always the same, we lose. Trouble was on paper we weren't all that bad. But I'm not going to get into that now cause the Indians are winning. Breakfast is on you if you show up in the morning Bob. Hahaha.

Bring out the broom. Okay, I'll feel good about this win. Omar Vizquel hit a 3 run homer and Thome added a 2 run shot as the Indians won 8-4 completing a 4 game sweep of the Twins. Colon gave up leadoff homers in the first 2 innings but settled in. Guzman committed another costly error at short as the tribe kept scoring. The game had its bad moments as 3 batters were hit by pitches. Thome was hit in the foot in the first inning and I doubt it was for the grand slam the day before and then 2 retaliations. Pryzinski looked like he got nailed pretty good by Colon. Ouch. Anyway, bring on the Kansas City Royals. I'm already wrong about the weeks record. I said 3 and 4 and they're already 4 and 0. And tomorrow night is fireworks night at the Jake. Always worth the price of admission. We outscored the Twins 31-16.
And, I don't like how FOX cable bought out the rights to broadcast the Indians games. This forces me to get cable hooked up or use a radio. I'll use the radio. It's a ripoff but what can you expect for the year 2002.

9-3 should be a convincing win for anybody. Anybody except me. I got a chance to listen to about 5 innings of the game, and it was the same old story. The Twins hung around with runners on base quite a few times while the Indians went down without much trouble for a few of those innings. Then they get a chance to blow it open and Thome strikes out with the bases loaded. I know, he hit a double and a grand slam but he struck out twice. I wouldn't mind so much if he'd put the ball in play when he makes an out cause there's always a chance for an error. Guzman hacked a couple easy grounders to give Thome the opportunity to hit that home run. This Riggins guy out of the bullpen is going to be trouble too. It's ok to put him in a game when you're up by 5 cause you can always yank him while you still have the lead. But is that the only time you feel safe to use him, with a 5 run lead. He almost blew the game the night before. Tomorrow we throw Colon against their number 5 starter, should be a breeze but these guys that never pitched against Cleveland before always give us fits. But, we won another series and might sweep.

Once more we managed to hang on for a win. Once more we scored early and sat around till Minnesota got back into it. Top of the ninth and the Twins had the tying run on base. What's going to happen when we don't score early? But, the best Minn can hope for now is a tie for this series. I'll take the win, Cle 5-Minn 4.

Okay, so we won again and convincingly at 9-5. I should be happy but I ain't. We put 9 runs up quick but were never in complete control. The Twins kept putting runners on base and were two hits from tying or winning late in the game. We laid down after the 4th inning and didn't do anything for the rest of the game. It's like we fell asleep. I've seen this too many times in the past.

What a way to start the season, 5 and 1. One series sweep and another series win with a 10-1 win over the Tigers. We didn't play a contender yet but our pitching looked pretty good. Thome is hitting about a buck and he's still in the clean-up spot. Minnesota comes to town tomorrow so we should see some good pitching. 4 games against Minn and then 3 against KC. I figure we'll go 3 and 4 unless of a rain or snow postponed game. This week it was Cle 6-Ana 0, Ana 7-Cle 5, Cle 6-Ana 5, Cle 10-Det 1, Cle 5-Det 3, Cle 5-Det-1.
